Halts Issuance of Export Permits for Soya Beans M=
eal
and Cake
The Ministry of Agriculture has
suspended issuing export permits for soya beans m=
eal
and cake, effective from Friday, March 15, 2024.
Beginning Saturday, March 16, 2024, no new export
permits will be granted for soya beans meal and c=
ake
until further notice.
It's imperative to note that any per=
mits
issued prior to March 15, 2024, will remain valid
until their expiration date. Further updates
regarding the resumption of permit issuance will =
be
communicated in due course.

Coordinated Border Management for Trade Efficienc=

The Government is launchin=

pilot program for Coordinated Border Management (=
CBM)
at Kazungula and Chirundu One-Stop Border Posts
(OSBPs). This move aims to streamline operations =

reducing border agencies from 18 to 6, ensuring
faster and smoother border clearances.

Three States Ready =
to
Trial COMESA Electronic Certificate of Origin
Eswatini, Malawi, and Zambia have
successfully integrated their national systems wi=
th
the COMESA Electronic Certificate of Origin (e-CO)
system, marking the first phase of piloting its
implementation. The e-CO, a crucial part of the
COMESA digital Free Trade Area Action Plan, aims =
to
facilitate intra-regional trade by replacing manu=
al
Certificate of Origin procedures. National focal
persons recently met in Lusaka for joint testing =
and
exchange of e-COs, paving the way for the pilot
phase.
Dr. Christopher Onyango of the COMESA
Secretariat highlighted key achievements and ongo=
ing
preparations, including readiness assessments and
country-specific action plans for selected Member
States. The meeting concluded with a joint action
plan to commence piloting the e-CO before May 202=
4.
